Golfing….how it began for me….

My love for the game of golf began on rocky ground, and I don’t mean at a course with lots of rocks! 😊  I took several lessons, as to not pick up bad habits immediately, and regularly joined a group of three male friends who had a +10 handicap. The three of them were serious about the game. They were laser focused their shots rarely even noticing when their beginner 4th occasionally had a good shot, let alone encouraging and cheering me on. I witnessed frequent bursts of anger and flying clubs.  This introduction into the game of golf quickly taught me 2 things, the rules of the game and that the game was no fun. After 2 seasons I stopped playing and stored my clubs away in a corner of the basement.

8 years later I had the opportunity to blow the dust off the clubs and join another male +10 handicap golfer for a game.  It was with trepidation that I agreed to the game.  I still remember my surprise when I had a wonderful time! What a different experience.  No constant negative commentary, encouraging words came my way, we chatted throughout the game about the scenery, life, and golf. It was that experience that changed my perception of golf and I fell in love with the game.

My next quest was to find a reliable way to get in a round of golf on a regular basis.  I had no girlfriends that golfed. My sister was not interested in the game.  My male friends would include me occasionally.  I was hooked now, and I needed a consistent means to play!  In the early 2000’s I searched out women’s golf programs and found Golfaround.  I joined and never looked back.  Golfaround offered me variety with a selection of courses across the city, played with like minded women who aimed to have fun and encourage one another. Once I fell in love with golf, I was grateful to find that community who supported me.

This is one of the reasons I am so excited to be a partner in Swingrip – providing the means to keep golf lovers in the game!

When you find something in life you love, embrace it.  It has the power to change your life!
